By 2020, nearly half of the world’s cosmetic products will be made with chemicals derived from petroleum, according to a report from the Cosmetic Manufacturers Association (CMA).
This is the first time that more than half of cosmetics will be derived from a petroleum source, and the CMA predicts this will lead to a massive reduction in the use of petroleum-based chemicals in the cosmetic industry.
The report says that, at least on the cosmetic front, the industry is on the right track to meet the 2030 Paris Agreement’s goal of reducing the use and intensity of use of synthetic materials.
However, the CAA also warns that the industry must keep up its efforts to make sure products are free of synthetic ingredients and must ensure they are safe to use.CMA president Tom Bowerman says: “It’s clear that if we are to achieve the goal of avoiding the use or use of chemicals from synthetic materials, we need to invest in the development of products that are free from synthetic ingredients, but that are safe and effective.”

The CMA also says that there are more than 30 million tonnes of toxic chemicals that are currently used in cosmetics, with a potential impact on human health that will be felt for generations.”

Chanel is reportedly working on a new line that’s likely to focus on its popular products.
The company’s flagship beauty brand is not expected to be making any major changes to its lineup.
Chanels have been popular in Japan and China for years.
It is currently producing the Chanel Classic line, a range of cosmetics, but that was discontinued in 2019.
The new Chanel Chanel Chastain brand is expected to focus mostly on its classic line of cosmetics and a few other lines.
The new line will also include Chanel Beauty Plus cosmetics, Chanel Color+ cosmetics, and Chanel Lipsticks.
The latter line will include three shades of lip gloss.
The Chanel brand is a subsidiary of the cosmetics conglomerate LVMH.
It’s not clear whether or not Chanel will have any plans to expand its products in the U.S. or Asia.
